About UsThe club currently has a growing membership, we are looking for people who have rowed previously and would like to get back in to rowing in some way. Anyone who comes down will be made welcome and taken for a row if they can fulfil some simple safety criteria. Coastal rowing has been a feature of sporting life in the British Isles for over a century. On the south coast of England the 38 clubs of the Coast Amateur Rowing Association, Hants & Dorset Rowing Association and West Country Amateur Rowing Association annually contest the South Coast Rowing Championships in sliding seat boats, whilst in Cornwall fixed seat rowing in Gigs is a large & growing sport. The club is affiliated to the UK Amateur Rowing Association, and we conform the policies of that association. Presently we do not have the luxury of a boat house. The boats are kept on a trailer and then are towed to the beach at Ramsey, on Mooragh Promenade opposite Ramsey Rugby Club. Why Go Rowing
|
Why Coastal Rowing? The Isle of Man is an ideal venue for coastal rowing with many fine sheltered bays allowing miles of safe water in which to row. If an onshore wind roughens the water in Peel, then at Ramsey there will be an offshore wind and flat water! Who can row?Any adult of any age who wants to row, can swim 100 Metres clothed, and has no medical or physical condition that would prevent them from taking part in heavy exercise can row with us. We are sorry, but at present we are unable to take children as members, although it is our intention to qualify the club to be able do this as soon as possible. For the serious rowers we go away to compete in a number of rowing events thought the year. If you wish to row for fun and have some exercise contact us to find out more about a great sport. If you are interested in joining us all you need is an old pair of shoes and sport kit. Bear in mind that you will get wet, so you will need to bring a change of clothes. To contact us see the committee page. |
At present we row Saturday and Sunday at 9:00 am. and Tuesday at 6:00 pm. in the summer.
